The Amiga Swopshop BBS Ray Tracing Competition 1993. This is the first of what we hope will become a regular event for Ray Tracers world wide. Our intention is to discover who's the best ray-tracer and also which is the best program available for the job. The judging will be performed by Tim White, a freelance illustrator. Tim's work includes cover artwork for Psygnosis, countless book covers, magazine work as well as having books published of his art. Tim has a limited knowledge of ray tracing which therefore makes him ideal as a judge as his opinions won't be biased by a preferred program. His knowlegde extends to knowing when a picture was put together in five minutes (a simple object against a scanned backdrop) or is the result of hours of hard work. In other words, you won't win without putting the time and effort in. Well, not unless it's an absolute corker of a picture.... If you don't have a 24bit display device or an AGA Amiga then I suggest you render most of the time in 24bit and convert the image down to the best possible display mode your machine can handle to view it. Art Department Professional, Imagemaster, Animator Pro, etc, or any of the PD packages will do the job nicely.... If you wish to enter then simply create your pictures and submit them as described below. If you want to know more about the competition then contact the following people...
